According to a recent update from Fichajes, Real Madrid have set their sights on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as the ideal player to succeed Toni Kroos in the centre of midfield.
Wharton has quickly impressed in the Premier League thanks to his vision, tactical intelligence, and ability to control the tempo of matches.
Since joining Crystal Palace in 2024, he has become a key figure, contributing heavily in their FA Cup and Community Shield glory.
Wharton’s maturity on the pitch has drawn comparisons with some of the great midfielders of recent years.
His style aligns perfectly with Real Madrid’s philosophy, which prioritises players who can balance creativity with defensive responsibility.
His skill in linking defence to attack and his refined technique make him a strategic long-term signing, capable of filling the void left by Kroos while adding fresh dynamism to the squad.
Real Madrid’s scouting team, has been monitoring Wharton closely, studying every aspect of his performances.

However, Crystal Palace want to extend his contract beyond 2029 and currently has an exit clause reportedly exceeding €80 million, making a move challenging in the short term.
Despite interest from the Spanish club, Wharton has publicly expressed his desire to continue developing at Crystal Palace before taking a step to a bigger European stage.
His ambition to compete in top-level European competitions, though, could make a future move to Real Madrid likely.
All this means the 2026 transfer window currently appears the most plausible opportunity for negotiations, depending on his progress and Palace’s Premier League performance.
Signing Wharton would offer Real Madrid both immediate reinforcement and a long-term solution for their midfield.
Beyond replacing Kroos, he would provide tactical flexibility for Xabi Alonso, allowing for different formations and strategies.
