Real Madrid identify Premier League star as a versatile defensive option for the summer

Real Madrid’s squad depth has simply been insufficient this season, especially in defence, with the team often getting into situations where players have had to play out of position to provide cover.

Federico Valverde playing at right-back and Eduardo Camavinga playing at left-back are just some of the examples of such situations arising in the past, with even Aurelien Tchouameni playing in central defence exemplifying the same.

The Merengues, thus, feel a real need to have more versatile players in their squad, i.e, names who can provide cover in multiple positions. Defensa Central reveals that the club have identified one such player in the Premier League.

The one in Bournemouth

Indeed, the player in question is none other than Alex Jimenez, Bournemouth’s young full-back, who is on loan from AC Milan and a product of Real Madrid’s academy.

The 20-year-old youngster can play both at right-back and left-back and is thus a dynamic defensive option who can provide broad cover in the department. Real Madrid have their eyes on him and see him as an option for the summer.

Bournemouth have the option to buy Jimenez for €20 million in the summer and can sign him permanently from AC Milan.

The twist, however, is that Real Madrid have a clause in place by which they can snap him up from the Rossoneri for just €10 million and even have priority on the deal, meaning their bid will be given preference over any other bids.

At the Valdebebas, they appreciate Jimenez to be a great option who can provide cover, especially at right-back where Dani Carvajal is not getting any younger and Trent Alexander-Arnold is still adapting to the club.

Further, he will be a handy option to fill in at left-back, too, should the club push one of the three existing players in the position to leave next summer.

No official move has been made to sign the 20-year-old star yet, but it is clear that Real Madrid are alert to his situation. A lot could change in the summer transfer window..
