El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that Franco Mastantuono will spend next season on loan at Fiorentina, aiming to gain experience before returning to Real Madrid.

Madrid will cover 50% of his salary and the Italian club have no option to buy. The decision was taken days ago after interest in Yan Diomande, a pure right winger, was formalised.

A year ago Madrid paid €63 million, including taxes, for a player who has not met expectations. A River Plate standout before 18, the leap to Spain proved demanding.

Mastantuono had public backing from Xabi Alonso, who trusted him as a starter and pushed for his signing amid PSG interest. He played 35 matches in his first season, scoring three goals.

Under Arbeloa his opportunities shrank, even after Rodrygo’s serious injury. Brahim filled the flank that Diomande now targets, while the Argentine tends to drift inside. Mastantuono wanted to stay but accepted the decision.

Options included a return to River Plate, but Madrid preferred an Endrick-style path after the Brazilian joined Lyon on loan in winter, so chose Fiorentina. The plan is for him to feel important after a peripheral pre-season, he scored in a training game against Leganés but did not convince Mourinho. He is contracted to Madrid until 2031.
