Real Madrid find themselves heading into the weekend with a growing sense of concern, as a fresh report from SPORT indicates that Kylian Mbappe remains a serious doubt for the upcoming La Liga encounter against Alaves.

What should have been a relatively manageable fixture now threatens to become a complicated test for Xabi Alonso, who is dealing with an unprecedented injury crisis across almost every line of his squad.

It must be noted that Real Madrid are physically depleted, and the list of absentees paints a bleak picture.

The team is already confirmed to be without Alvaro Carreras, Fran Garcia and Endrick, all of whom are suspended.

These forced withdrawals are only the beginning, as the defensive sector has been ravaged by injuries to Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Compounding the problem, four more players, namely, Mbappe, Eduardo Camavinga, David Alaba and Dean Huijsen, are still sidelined with injuries of varying severity.

What about Mbappe?

Within that group, Mbappe’s situation is unquestionably the most troubling.

The French superstar continues to struggle with knee discomfort, an issue that already kept him out of the match against Manchester City.

Given that absence, optimism around his availability for Alaves is dwindling by the hour.

Madrid’s medical team is scheduled to reassess Mbappe’s condition with a new round of tests today, and while the forward is reportedly eager to return to action, the club will not entertain the slightest risk.

No risk with Mbappe

With a long season ahead and several decisive fixtures approaching, Real Madrid prefer caution over a premature comeback that could aggravate his discomfort.

Only a sudden and significant improvement, supported by the medical department, would allow Mbappe to rejoin the squad in time.

Otherwise, Alonso may have to prepare for another match without his marquee forward at a time when Real Madrid can least afford more setbacks.
