Real Madrid may have already signed six new players in the ongoing summer transfer window, emerging as the busiest club in Europe in the process.

But there is a glaring hole in the club’s midfield unit, with Los Blancos already missing out on Rodri, who has reportedly agreed to join Barcelona.

With Rodri no longer a possibility, Real Madrid are running out of time and options to find a new midfielder, who can complement the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham next season.

Real Madrid, though, have not completely given up and are currently monitoring three midfielders in the market right now.

This is according to Diario AS, which suggests Los Blancos are still keeping tabs on Kees Smit, Adam Wharton and Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Unfortunately, the club have yet to make any move to sign any of these three players. They are simply monitoring.

The report also mentions Martin Zubimendi as the ideal Rodri alternative, as suggested by AI, but confirms Real Madrid are no longer interested in the Arsenal star.

Among the three options, Smit is definitely the most realistic for Real Madrid right now.

Named the UEFA Conference League Revelation of the Season last campaign, Smit is still plying his trade for AZ Alkmaar and shouldn’t cost a fortune.

Bouaddi, meanwhile, is likely to cost a fortune and it is unlikely Lyon will be considering selling their star performer anytime soon.

As for Wharton, he is likely to be expensive as well given his status as one of Premier League’s best young midfielders. Being a PL player itself gives him a valuation increase that Real Madrid likely can’t afford.

The scenario could change Real Madrid were to get rid of one of their unwanted stars such as Eduardo Camavinga, but the Frenchman has no desire to leave and wants to fight for his place in the starting eleven.
