Real Madrid offered an early glimpse of José Mourinho’s new project via an unusual, part-open run-out in Valdebebas, neither friendly nor full training. El Periódico Mediterráneo reports it was billed as 'a training session with Alcorcón' and broadcast for 50 minutes on club TV.

Media were admitted to the Alfredo di Stéfano, where about 20 minutes of warm-up were shown without Mourinho, then a short game against Primera RFEF side Alcorcón. The open section offered little to conclude.

It will not count as a friendly, but Mourinho did name his first 11 since returning after 13 years apart. The lineup included academy duo Cestero and Gabri Valero with Lunin, Trent, Asencio, Huijsen, Carreras, Camavinga, Mastantuono, Arda Güler and Gonzalo.

Fede Valverde was the only senior to miss the game, back on Wednesday from post-World Cup holidays and confirmed as the new captain after Carvajal’s exit. Rüdiger and Dumfries should be next to arrive, and injured Militao, Mendy and Rodrygo watched from the stands.

Madrid set up in a 4-2-3-1, Güler as playmaker and Mastantuono on the right, the pair swapping. Only around 25 minutes were open.

There were no goals. In the first minute Alcorcón conceded a penalty on Mastantuono, Güler’s kick towards the base of the post was saved. No further shots followed.

The first full friendly is next Saturday against Fiorentina, then Ferencvaros on 8 August and Deportivo in the Teresa Herrera Trophy on 12 August.
