La Liga giants Real Madrid have kicked into gear contract negotiations with a soon-to-be out-of-contract member of the club’s defensive ranks.

The Blancos star in question? Antonio Rüdiger.

Stopper Rüdiger is for his part currently due to see his Real Madrid stint come to a close in the summer, upon the close of his contract terms.

Earlier in the campaign, it appeared increasingly likely that the parties were set to go their separate ways, as the German struggled for form and fitness alike.

Recent months, however, have seen Rüdiger reestablish himself as a leading figure in the capital outfit’s backline.

And such efforts, coupled with the impending arrival of José Mourinho, appear to have proven enough to earn for the former Chelsea man an extended Bernabéu stay.

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘Antonio Rüdiger is in talks over an extended contract with Real Madrid. The parties are yet to come to an agreement and discussions are set to continue, with the expectation that a resolution either way could be reached next week.’
