According to a fresh report from Defensa Central, Real Madrid are reportedly exploring a surprise move for Barcelona’s 18-year-old youth team talent, Juan Hernandez, whose current contract with the Catalan club runs until 2026.
The revelation has caused quite a stir, as it involves one of Barcelona’s most promising young midfielders being monitored by their biggest rivals.
The report highlights that Real Madrid’s chief scout, Juni Calafat, is a major admirer of Juan’s potential.
While the club has not made an official approach yet, Calafat is said to be closely tracking the player’s progress.
The situation could take an interesting turn in January, when Real Madrid may attempt to open talks if Barcelona fail to secure the youngster’s long-term future before then.
What makes the teenager so appealing is his versatility. Although naturally a central midfielder, he can also operate effectively on the wing, offering tactical flexibility.

This season, the 18-year-old has been a regular starter for Barcelona B, registering one goal and one assist.
It must be noted that, Real Madrid are already planning to reinforce their midfield for next season, a move that was initially discussed when Xabi Alonso’s arrival was being finalised.
However, at the time, Florentino Perez and his team decided that the current squad was strong enough.
Now, the potential signing of Juan appears to be part of a longer-term strategy, not to place immediate pressure on the youngster, but to develop him in Castilla with a clear pathway to the first team in the future.
Despite Madrid’s growing interest, competition could come from Paris Saint-Germain, who are also reportedly monitoring the player closely.
This could complicate the operation for Los Blancos, especially if the French giants decide to act fast.
