The growing tension between Real Madrid and Barcelona is no longer just about football rivalry.
According to COPE, the roots of the current hostility run far deeper, tied to a political fracture that Florentino Perez views as an unforgivable betrayal.
At the heart of the issue lies Barcelona’s gradual distancing from the Super League project and their renewed alignment with UEFA, something the Real Madrid president has not taken lightly.
From Perez’s perspective, Barcelona’s withdrawal from the Super League represents a direct break in trust.
It is known that Real Madrid have remained the most committed defender of the project.
Barcelona’s change in direction, therefore, is seen not merely as a disagreement but as an abandonment at a critical moment.
Barcelona’s improving relationship with UEFA has only reinforced that belief.
Itm ust be remembered that in October, Laporta attended the annual assembly of the European Football Clubs, where he met Nasser Al-Khelaifi, a known opponent of the Super League and a figure closely aligned with UEFA.

Laporta’s presence there was widely interpreted as a public gesture of reconciliation with the existing European football power structure.
Within Real Madrid circles, that image was viewed as a clear declaration of intent. It symbolised Barcelona stepping away from Perez’s vision and, effectively, isolating him in the Super League battle.
From that point onwards, relations between the two presidents deteriorated rapidly.
As such, following Laporta’s appearance in Rome, Perez hardened his stance and intensified his public criticism of Barcelona, particularly in relation to the Negreira case.
Speaking recently, the club president made his position unmistakably clear, insisting that “the ‘Negreira case’ is the most serious problem that football has today, even at an international level.”
From Real Madrid’s point of view, this is not a coincidence, as the Negreira case has become the primary front in the conflict, and this marks a definitive breaking point.
The Super League dispute is seen as the trigger that has reignited open warfare between the two clubs.
