Despite currently being focused on completing some exit operations, Real Madrid have still not ruled out some more additions to their team after having already made four new signings this summer.

The new coach Jose Mourinho reportedly still wants another midfielder and center-back for the next season, and it remains to be seen which players would arrive to reinforce these positions for the Merengue side.

For the midfield, there were two names in particular being linked with the white club, Mateus Fernandes and Enzo Fernandez. However, both of these names are now off the table. The former has already signed for Tottenham Hotspur in a deal that would reach around €100 million.

Meanwhile, as Diario AS has noted, the latter’s signing has been ruled out by Real Madrid themselves, as they published an official statement today, on Friday, to clarify that they are not making any efforts to sign him and have no intentions to make such efforts either.

The full statement published by the club went as follows:

“In light of the information and statements that have emerged in recent days regarding an alleged interest from Real Madrid C. F. in the player Enzo Fernández, the club wishes to state that it has not made any efforts, either directly or indirectly, aimed at signing the aforementioned player and, furthermore, has no intention of pursuing such an operation.

Real Madrid wishes to express its utmost respect for Enzo Fernández, a great footballer whose career and quality are widely recognized, as well as for Chelsea FC, a club with which it maintains an excellent institutional relationship.

Precisely out of respect for an institution like Chelsea FC and the principles of institutional loyalty that have always guided Real Madrid’s actions, the club considers it necessary to categorically deny these speculations, which are unfounded and do not reflect reality.

Real Madrid regrets that, despite the clarity of the facts and the absence of any action by the club, information continues to be disseminated that does not correspond to reality and only serves to create confusion among fans and unnecessarily harm the entities and individuals involved.”

This statement comes right in the aftermath of some comments from Enzo Fernandez’s agent, Javier Pastore, who recently suggested that talks might be underway to bring the Argentine to the Merengue club. But with this statement, Real Madrid have put a quick stop to any such speculation, and thus clarified their position for everyone, including their fans, media, and any other clubs that might be interested in the midfielder.

For now, it remains to be seen if the Merengues would find other suitors to reinforce their midfield this summer, as Mourinho wishes, or continue to rely on their current players, including Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, and Thiago Pitarch.
