Real Madrid have signed 19-year-old midfielder Sergio Martínez from Racing, the club said in a statement, with the transfer window closing at 23:59 on Tuesday one September.

Madrid have paid the player’s release clause in full, a fee of three million euros. Barcelona, Atlético, Villarreal, clubs in England and Arabia had shown interest in the 1.88 metre talent.

The Laredo-born player will join Castilla in the Primera RFEF, with the option to train under first-team manager José Mourinho. He has agreed a deal until 2030 after weighing staying in LaLiga or dropping two divisions for a time.

Martínez entered Racing’s academy at age 10 and progressed through every level to the senior side. He has made 15 appearances, including two starts, in LaLiga EA Sports 2026-27.

Racing returned to LaLiga after 14 years with a 2-2 draw against Villarreal at El Sardinero. Andrés Martín opened the scoring from the spot and Martínez doubled the lead with a superb volley on his top-flight debut.

Tracked at 126.7 km/h, that strike made him Racing’s youngest scorer on debut in Primera in the 21st century, at 19 years and 93 days.
