Real Madrid stance on new Julian Alvarez move following Atletico Madrid offer

Earlier this month, Real Madrid made a €150m offer for Julian Alvarez, but it was turned down by Atletico Madrid. The Argentine striker turned out to the mystery player that Florentino Perez promised to pursue during his re-election campaign, although nothing has progressed in the weeks since that proposal was rejected.

However, there is a chance that new developments come soon, with Atleti now ready to sell Alvarez to their city rivals – it comes after the player himself expressed a desire to leave this summer. Los Colchoneros have no intention of selling to Barcelona, whom they have reported to FIFA over alleged tapping-up, but they would be prepared to sanction a move to the Bernabeu.

Atleti do not want to sell Alvarez, but if they are to lose him, they will let him go to anyone but Barcelona. But unfortunately for those at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, Real Madrid are no longer interested in pursuing a summer move for the 25-year-old striker, as reported by Sport.

In the days after Atleti turned down their €150m offer for Alvarez, Real Madrid consider their pursuit over. Despite now being told that a deal is on the table, they are not prepared to come back, and instead, they have shifted their focus to other targets – namely Enzo Fernandez and Michael Olise.

Little need for Alvarez at Real Madrid – unless someone leaves

It’s smart for Real Madrid not to be dragged back into the Alvarez debacle. Right now, there is simply no need for him in Jose Mourinho’s squad, which makes it all the more bewildering that they bid on him in the first place.

However, there is a chance that Alvarez could be needed in the future. Real Madrid are still yet to agree a new contract with Vinicius Junior, and should they fail on this, his exit would require a replacement to be signed – and one of the players under consideration would be the Atleti number nine.
