Real Madrid have had a very busy summer transfer window, although it is likely to be a quiet final few weeks at Valdebebas. They have done all of their desired business, although they did miss out on signing Rodri, with the 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner ultimately choosing to join Barcelona instead.
It’s unlikely that Real Madrid will sign an alternative to Rodri, at least according to head coach Jose Mourinho. That is good news for the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Thiago Pitarch, both of whom had been heavily linked with moves away earlier in the summer.
In the last couple of weeks, the decision was made for Pitarch to remain at the club, which was a reward for his impressive form during the second half of last season. Things have now got even better for the teenager, with ESPN (via MD) reporting that he has penned a new contract. thus confirming his place in the first team.
Mourinho is counting on Pitarch for the 2026-27 season, and he will have chances to challenge the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni, Federico Valverde, Bernardo Silva and Camavinga for a starting spot. However, he has not yet managed to be registered as a first team player, which is why he will adorn the number 27 jersey going forward – although that will have little impact on how much he is in his manager’s plans.
Pitarch is clearly a player that could become increasingly important for Real Madrid in the years to come. He may not play regularly over the next 12 months, but the experience of being coached by Mourinho – coupled with learning from Tchouameni, Valverde and co – will undoubtedly help his development, and both he and the club will be all the better for it.
