Real Madrid star Federico Valverde has been playing through the pain to help his teammates for several weeks now.

This of course comes amid nothing short of a personnel crisis in Spain’s capital at present.

Xabi Alonso’s troops have toiled in their efforts on the pitch of late, notching wins in just two of their last eight outings across all competitions.

Across this stretch, a whole host of players have been singled out for criticism by fans and the media alike.

Chief amongst them has been the aforementioned Federico Valverde, generally regarded as one of the most consistent performers in world football, but looking some way off his best for some time now.

As alluded to above, though, this weekend, a potential explanation for as much has come to the fore online.

As per a report from Real Madrid insider Sergio Quirante of DAZN:

‘Valverde has been playing for three weeks with some very significant physical problems, and tomorrow he will do so again. He doesn’t want to leave his teammates or his coach in the lurch at such a delicate moment and with so many absences.’
