Paris Saint-Germain haven’t missed Kylian Mbappé to start the 2024-25 season as the capital club have scored 10 goals in their first two matches, resulting in victories over Le Havre and Montpellier Hérault SC.

Moreover, Bradley Barcola, the player tasked with replacing Mbappé on the left side, is off to an impressive start. The 21-year-old has scored three goals in those first two matches of the campaign, including a brace against Montpellier last Friday.

As Barcola continues to shine, Robin Bairner, Chief Editor at FootballTransfers.com, recently appeared on the PSG Talking podcast. He mentioned that he wouldn’t blame any Parisian supporter for wanting to keep Barcola over welcoming back their all-time leading goal scorer.

“I think if you don’t watch PSG, it’s probably the thing you go, ‘Yeah, you’re crazy [for wanting Barcola over Mbappé],'” Bairner said. “But if you watch PSG and you watch enough Bradley Barcola, then you go, ‘Well, that’s a really good question.’

“It’s a really tough one. I think individually, Mbappé will be the better player. But as I mentioned earlier, I think perhaps for PSG, it could be that Barcola works out as being the better option in the next two or three years’ time.”

Mbappé is off to a slow start at Real Madrid with one goal in three matches across all competitions. Furthermore, he’s yet to score his first goal in La Liga, and while it’s only a matter of time until he snaps out of his funk, PSG can let go of any worries over how they’d replace his production if these first two league matches are an indicator.
