Real Madrid have received another challenge in their pursuit of top French defenders.
Just a day after Arsenal confirmed the long-term contract extension of William Saliba until 2030, news from L’Equipe suggests that Liverpool are gaining confidence in securing Ibrahima Konate’s future.
The French international defender has reportedly been offered a contract renewal by the Premier League champions, and the club’s management feels positive about the outcome.
The Los Blancos have been closely monitoring the situations of three French centre-backs, namely, Dayot Upamecano, Ibrahima Konate, and William Saliba.
Until recently, the long-term futures of all three were uncertain, leaving Real Madrid with hopes of strengthening their defensive options.
Saliba’s contract extension at Arsenal was a clear signal that one option is now off the table.
According to reports, Liverpool began initial talks to extend Konate’s contract less than a year ago.

The discussions were paused for several months as the player focused on his season, but resumed in the spring.
Over this period, the Reds revised their offer multiple times, with a significant new proposal reportedly presented about two weeks ago.
While progress has been made, some elements still need to be finalised before an agreement can be officially announced.
Real Madrid continue to watch Konate’s situation closely, but no official offers or negotiations have been made yet.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s management remains confident that their efforts will pay off, aiming to secure the former RB Leipzig defender, whose contract expires next June.
This development comes as a clear reminder of the competition Real Madrid face in the market.
With Saliba’s extension and Konate’s negotiations advancing positively for Liverpool, the Los Blancos will need to act strategically to secure their defensive targets.
