Real Madrid are going through a difficult period now, with uncertainty ranging from Xabi Alonso’s future to a lack of cohesion among attackers.
The dynamics between Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. have been particularly worrying, as the two have not been able to gel together as well as one would have hoped.
While Mbappe has carried the team with goals, Vinicius looks like a shadow of his former self, leading to Santi Canizares stating that the terms being demanded by him from Real Madrid in the renewal deal are far more than what the player is producing right now.
Keeping in mind the imbalanced power dynamic between Mbappe and Vinicius, Jose Mario Bakero has compared the situation to Barcelona in the 90s.
The former Barça player particularly compared the situation to the dynamics that unfolded between Hristo Stoichkov and Romario.
“This happened to us a little, although not in the same way or with the same characteristics,” he told El Larguero (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Bakero explained how Barcelona used to be a stable unit, before Romero’s arrival threw them off balance.
“When it was just Stoichkov, accompanied by Koeman and Laudrup, we had three pillars, and everything was more or less fine.
“But, from the moment Romario arrived, two players with a personality that stood out above the rest of the group came in. It threw us off balance,” he revealed.
Finally, Bakero warned that it is a dangerous game to have two defining egos in the same team and how it can disrupt a well-functioning team.
“It’s unbalancing everyone, and especially themselves. In our case, Stoichkov and Romario lost many of the qualities they had.
“So, what’s the problem? When you have two players who don’t understand each other’s roles, it becomes incredibly complicated,” he concluded.
