Real Madrid ‘to scrap’ official presentations for Mourinho and six signings

Real Madrid will not stage official presentation ceremonies for José Mourinho and their six summer signings, instead hosting private welcomes, according to OK Diario.

It will be a first for the club. In recent seasons players have been welcomed in private events, broadcast on the club’s TV channel, then faced the media without Florentino Pérez, as happened last summer with Huijsen, Carreras, Mastantuono and Trent, who were accompanied by Emilio Butragueño.

On special occasions the Santiago Bernabéu has opened to fans to greet marquee arrivals. Mbappé’s unveiling two summers ago was the last example. There will be none of that this time.

Cucurella, Bernardo, Konaté, Dumfries, Espí and Diomande had been awaiting their official turns, but these will now be limited to private events attended by family and close friends. This was not the original plan, but Florentino Pérez spent much of the summer away from Madrid, delaying any ceremony, and a scheduled presentation for Dumfries, the first to start pre-season, was pulled. The club has ultimately ruled out a carousel of unveilings in the days before the league opener.

Coaches have followed a similar pattern. Xabi Alonso followed the same protocol as the players at Valdebebas last year, whereas Álvaro Arbeloa was not presented after replacing Alonso and first spoke publicly on the eve of his debut. The same is set for Mourinho this Friday, before Espanyol-Real Madrid on Saturday.
