Real Madrid’s long-standing admiration for William Saliba has taken a new turn, but the Spanish giants are not willing to pay the steep price Arsenal have put on their French centre-back.
According to Fichajes, the Gunners have floated the idea of a blockbuster swap deal involving Aurelien Tchouameni, a proposal that has been swiftly rejected in Madrid.
There is no doubt that Saliba is a player who fits Real Madrid’s long-term vision. Strong, intelligent, and composed under pressure, the 24-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent defenders.
At Real Madrid, his profile is seen as ideal to lead the post-Alaba generation.
However, Arsenal have made it crystal clear that they won’t even consider negotiations unless the offer involves something of immense value — and Tchouameni’s name has been placed on the table.
Arteta, for his part, is a known admirer of Tchouameni and would love to bring him to North London.
With Thomas Partey’s future uncertain and Declan Rice needing a dependable partner in midfield, the Real Madrid pivot would be a dream addition.

Despite facing some criticism and fierce competition from Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde, Tchouameni is still seen as a key figure in the club’s project.
The club has no intention of letting go of a player they see as pivotal for both present and future, especially not in a direct trade.
Even so, Madrid’s interest in Saliba remains strong. While they won’t entertain a swap involving Tchouameni, the defender’s situation is being closely monitored.
His current contract runs until 2027, but if Arsenal fail to extend it further, the scenario could shift dramatically in future windows. In that case, Real Madrid would be ready to act, but on their terms.
As it stands, no deal is imminent. But the message is clear: Saliba is admired in Madrid, yet Tchouameni’s place in the Spanish capital is not up for negotiation.
