In a short time, Dani Carvajal has gone from being one of the most underrated Real Madrid players to one who is deservedly recognised in every game.

A fantastic campaign last season that saw him lift La Liga, the UEFA Champions League and win the European Championship with Spain brought his name to the limelight and it has not waned ever since.

At this point, Carvajal is not only one of the most experienced but also the most valued players in the squad. With no replacement signed yet, he appears set to dominate for a few more years at least.

Renewal, but with a condition

From starting just 17 games for the club back in 2021-22 to 25 games last season, Carvajal has aged like fine wine and Real Madrid count on him for the future as well.

Now already 32, the player is towards the twilight of his career. His contract ends in June and there is conviction on both sides that an agreement will be reached as revealed by MARCA.

As is always the case with players over the age of 30, however, Carvajal will only see one-year extensions here on and he accepts the unwritten rule graciously.

After all, he can still earn a couple of yearly extensions given that he is still considered the best in his position by many.

So far this season, the veteran defender has started four of Real Madrid’s five games in La Liga and has overseen three clean sheets in the process. Further, he averages over seven defensive actions per game and completes close to 90% of his passes per game.
