Real Madrid have had a difficult time keeping hold of their veteran stars in recent years, having lost out on the services of players like Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Nacho Fernandez and Lucas Vazquez.

Recent reports are now claiming that Dani Carvajal could be the next player to leave Real Madrid, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Carvajal has been closely linked with a move to Qatar, and these speculations intensified after the veteran’s visit to the Middle East this week.

Why Carvajal visited Qatar

In the wake of Carvajal’s visit to Al Gharafa, Fabrizio Romano has offered some clarification, as he notably explained why the veteran decided to go to Qatar this week.

According to the Italian transfer expert, Carvajal’s visit to Al Gharafa was simply a regular visit to meet his old friend, Joselu.

After leaving Real Madrid in 2024, Joselu plies his trade for Al Gharafa, having already featured in almost 50 appearances for the Qatari outfit.

Romano adds that Qatar, for his part, dreams of signing Carvajal, a player they respect highly. Qatar hopes the Real Madrid veteran can come to play in the country one day.

However, Romano clarifies that Carvajal remains fully focused on his role at Real Madrid right now and is not thinking about his future.

The veteran defender is expected to make a final decision on his future in the coming months, only after the storm has settled at Real Madrid.

Indeed, with Xabi Alonso’s future on the line, Carvajal, despite being injured, has been playing a crucial role in rallying the team and getting them to work with the Real Madrid manager.
