Despite signing no less than four players this summer, Real Madrid remain on the prowl for a Galactico addition, as part of Florentino Perez’s plans to reinforce the team.

While much of the focus has been on Michael Olise, Real Madrid are also keen on signing Enzo Fernandez of Chelsea.

The Argentine international has emerged as the preferred midfield target for Jose Mourinho, as Real Madrid look to move on from Eduardo Camavinga.

No talks with Chelsea

However, Real Madrid have yet to make any inroads, as far as their pursuit of Enzo Fernandez is concerned.

According to Fabrizio Romano, there have been zero talks between Real Madrid and Chelsea over a potential deal, despite various reports suggesting otherwise.

While Enzo is genuinely appreciated by the club, he remains just one of five names on Real Madrid’s midfield shortlist, and there have been no club-to-club discussions whatsoever at this stage.

It must be noted that Xabi Alonso, who will take charge of Chelsea next season, is reportedly keen on preventing Real Madrid from signing Enzo, viewing the Argentine as a key part of his rebuild.

Given the broken relationship between Alonso and several figures at the Bernabeu during his brief spell as Real Madrid coach, the former midfielder will have little inclination to do his old club any favours.

With Chelsea valuing Enzo in excess of €120 million and Alonso determined to keep him, any potential move looks increasingly difficult to engineer.

A strong World Cup campaign

While the transfer speculation rumbles on, Enzo has been letting his football do the talking at the World Cup, delivering a series of impressive performances for reigning champions Argentina.

He was outstanding in Argentina’s opening 4-0 demolition of Algeria, a match in which Lionel Messi grabbed a hat-trick, and has continued to pull the strings in midfield as Lionel Scaloni’s side progress through the tournament.

Those displays only enhance his appeal to Real Madrid and Mourinho, who sees the Argentine as a clear upgrade on Camavinga and the ideal addition to control the centre of the park.

Speaking of Camavinga, though, Real Madrid are ready to part ways with the French international for a fee of just €60 million this summer.
