La Liga giants Real Madrid do not have an alternative target in mind on the transfer market after missing out on Manchester City star Rodri.

That’s according to numerous sources across the Spanish football landscape.

It has of course been a day of mixed emotions at Real Madrid on Thursday. On a positive note, Los Blancos have announced both the the big-money signing of Yan Diomandé, and the contract renewal of attacking talisman Vinícius Jr.

These developments, however, have been somewhat soured by the latest news surrounding the plans of the aforementioned Rodri. Long considered Madrid-bound, the former Ballon d’Or winner is understood to have instead committed to taking his talents to Hansi Flick’s Barcelona.

This means that José Mourinho and co. will miss out on an absolutely vital piece of the engine room puzzle drawn up behind the scenes at Valdebebas.

And as alluded to above, the arrival of an alternative profile appears highly unlikely as things stand.

As per the likes of Diario AS and Real Madrid journalist Abraham P. Romero, the expectation is that Mourinho will be asked to find a solution amongst his current midfield options.

Los Blancos’ senior engine room setup currently consists of Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Arda Güler, Jude Bellingham and Bernardo Silva. Youngster Thiago Pitarch is another profile whom Real’s coaching staff could consider.
