Real Sociedad agree terms with Mats Hummels, deal to be announced in next 36 hours

It’s been a very good 24 hours for Real Sociedad supporters. Their team picked up their first win of the season at Espanyol on Saturday evening, and a major signing is now about to be closed.

This week, La Real stepped up their pursuit of Mats Hummels. The 35-year-old defender, currently a free agent following the expiry of his Borussia Dortmund in June, has been in talks with officials at the Basque giants, and according to Cadena SER, an agreement in principle has now been reached.

Hummels will sign a one-year contract, which would include the option for an additional 12 months. The idea is for the deal to be signed on Monday, meaning that he could be available for La Real’s next La Liga fixture – against Alaves on Wednesday evening.

Hummels would arrive at Real Sociedad as the replacement for Robin Le Normand, who joined Atletico Madrid earlier this summer. As far as replacements go, you won’t find many better, despite his age.
