Real Sociedad have won the Copa del Rey three times from seven finals. As reported by as.com, their first success came in 1909 and the most recent in 2021.

Competing as Club Ciclista de San Sebastián, they beat Español de Madrid 3-1 in 1909. George McGuinness scored on 30 and 80 minutes, Charles Simmons added the other, with Giralt replying.

Barcelona denied them in 1913 after a replay, 2-1 following 2-2 and 0-0 draws. In 1928, after two 1-1 stalemates in Santander, Barcelona won the third game 3-1.

Barcelona again prevailed 3-0 in 1951 in Madrid, then won 1-0 in 1988 at the Santiago Bernabéu through Alexanko.

The second crown arrived on 27 June 1987 at La Romareda against Atlético de Madrid. López Ufarte and Txiki Begiristain scored in normal time, it finished 2-2 after extra time, and La Real won 4-2 on penalties as Luis Arconada saved Quique Ramos’s kick.

The landmark third came on 3 April 2021 at La Cartuja, the first all-Basque final. Real Sociedad beat Athletic 1-0, Mikel Oyarzabal converting a 63rd-minute penalty after Íñigo Martínez fouled Portu.

Against Athletic, Real edged the 1987 semi-final, 0-0 at San Mamés then 1-0 at Atotxa via Bakero, while in 1984’s last 16 Athletic progressed 5-3 on penalties after 0-0 and 1-1.
