Real Sociedad land Mamadou Sarr on season-long loan with no buy option | OneFootball

Real Sociedad have secured Mamadou Sarr as their first addition for next season. The 22-year-old joins from Chelsea on a season-long loan with no option to buy.

According to AS, the French defender, a Senegal international, can operate on either side of central defence, and Pellegrino Matarazzo would use him on the left, leaving Jon Martín on the right.

Chelsea signed Sarr in June 2025 from Racing Club de Estrasburgo for 20 million euros, handing him an eight-year deal to 2033. He is regarded as one of the most promising defenders in French football.

The move follows the late collapse of Real’s pursuit of Nayef Aguerd due to the Moroccan’s fitness problems. The club have scouted centre-backs throughout the summer.

Sarr stands 1.94 metres and featured at the 2026 World Cup. Xabi Alonso, Chelsea’s head coach, is said to have been key to the agreement.
