Álex Remiro is entering the final year of his deal at Real Sociedad, with his release clause dropping from €50 million to €12 million this summer. Sporting director Erik Bretos says he is counting on the goalkeeper for next season and has not held talks over an exit, adding that the player has not said he wants to leave. According to Superdeporte, the club are nonetheless preparing in case he opts to end his time at Anoeta.
One option under consideration is Leo Román. The young goalkeeper has LaLiga experience and extended his Mallorca contract last year to 2030. Mallorca would insist on his €12 million release clause, a cost Real Sociedad could absorb if Remiro leaves.
Román came through Mallorca’s academy and debuted for the first team in 21/22. Two years later he joined Real Oviedo on loan, playing 46 matches and keeping 17 clean sheets across the league and the promotion play-offs.
On returning to Mallorca he competed with Dominik Greif, who left for Lyon in August 2025. Román was first choice this past season and made his Spain debut on 4 June in a friendly against Iraq.
The Mallorca No 1 spot would remain his next season, but after relegation he is considering leaving, and Real Sociedad are not his only option.
Roma are also in the race and are ready to pay the clause, but Román is more attracted to staying in Spain. His main reason is the desire for regular minutes, while at Roma the Serbian goalkeeper Mile Svilar is established as the undisputed starter.
