Real Sociedad to contest Spanish Super Cup in Istanbul in February | OneFootball

Real Sociedad will contest the Spanish Super Cup in Istanbul between two and seven February, after the Saudi Arabia staging fell through because of the Asian Cup. The federation announced on Thursday that the tournament will be relocated to Türkiye.

Istanbul was selected following a period of work and negotiations that assessed seven bids from across the world, with Doha, Qatar among the locations considered.

All matches will be played at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in the western district of İkitelli, the country’s largest arena with around 75,000 capacity. It was also where Real won at Galatasaray in the 03/04 Champions League, with goals by Kovacevic and Xabi Alonso.

Real Sociedad will meet Real Madrid in the semi-final, with the date and kick-off time still to be confirmed. Barcelona face Atlético de Madrid in the other tie.

The Basque club last appeared in the Spanish Super Cup in January 2021, losing to Barcelona on penalties in the semi-final.
