Red Bulls, Newcastle United and needing another Leicester…

I think that the majority of Newcastle United fans and indeed supporters of other clubs, think that international breaks are tripe.

There really should be a law against them.

There are only so many blockbusters against Latvia a man can take.

Play Golf?

Millions do, but I’m not one of them.

I fully admit that I love the Ryder Cup and I love the Masters but I have never felt the urge to spend four hours in the long grass trying to locate my balls.

Fishing?

Millions do, but I’m not one of them.

I fully admit to being a huge fan of Paul and Bob in Gone Fishing but I’ve never felt the urge to spend four hours dangling my rod in cold water.

Cycling?

Millions do, but I’m not one of them.

I fully admit to shaving my legs and covering my body parts in vaseline, but actually that’s got nowt to do with cycling…

I decide to spend my time following Rugby Union in general and the Newcastle Red bulls in particular.

Rugby?

Rugby?

I know that many of you will think Rugby is just about posh blokes spending 80 minutes in a big huddle with their heads up each others shorts, but you could not be further from the truth.

They only do that for 40 minutes. The rest of the match is taken up by one of them booting the ball out of the ground.

I’m not really selling it, am I?

As I’m sure you are aware , the Falcons have been bought by Red Bull, which has overnight turned the club from a basket case to one that has glory at its fingertips.

Sound familiar?

However, as I watched the red bulls getting absolutely battered 57-5 by Sale at the weekend, meaning it’s played three, lost three, and a points difference of minus 97 , I realised that we are not going to be winning anything anytime soon.

I found myself thinking, who are going to win their premiership first.

Red Bulls or Newcastle United?

The bottom club in rugby or the Champions league club in football?

Sadly, I think the Bulls will be able to achieve the holy grail first.

My reasoning is that the teams and obstacles that are in the path of the Bulls are nowhere near as as high as those facing United.

Although I’m not expecting to see Marcus Smith freezing his bits off at Kingston Park next year, big names will be coming in the next few seasons, making us able to compete in a very even league.

Currently there is not a lot of money in the game so I predict a league title within five years.

So what about Newcastle United?

I pray to be proved wrong but for us to win the league, currently we need Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal all to have a bad season together and ours to be perfect.

Basically, we need a year like Leicester.

But remember…we are only four years into this era.

To date, we have been to Wembley twice, won a trophy and made Champions League twice. In my opinion, that has been a pretty good return

I’m nine years away from getting a free TV licence. My brain cells may be dying off at some rate these days but I do believe that before that day comes, we will win the league.

But even if we don’t, if life goes on like the last four, I for one will be very happy.

Apart from during the international weeks. They really are complete and utter s…!
