Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Alaves did little to calm tensions inside the club, as refereeing decisions from the match have sparked deep frustration at Valdebebas.

According to an update shared by AS, the reaction was one of outright anger, particularly over a second-half incident involving Vinicius Jr. that the club felt could have changed the course of the game.

The defining moment came with the score at 2-1, when Vinicius went down inside the penalty area after contact from an Alaves defender.

Real Madrid immediately appealed for a penalty, convinced that the foul met the threshold for intervention.

However, referee Garcia Verdura waved play on, judging the contact to be insufficient.

Even more infuriating for Madrid was the fact that Gonzalez Fuertes, overseeing VAR duties, did not call the on-field referee to the monitor for a review.

Real Madrid are not happy

From the club’s perspective, the frustration was not limited to a single call. The belief is that the referee was well-positioned, made a decision, and VAR chose not to intervene at all, despite the subjective nature of the incident.

This combination of events reportedly pushed Real Madrid’s anger to a boiling point.

So intense was the outrage that the club made a calculated decision after the final whistle.

No players were sent for the post-match interviews. Not out of indifference, but out of caution

There was a genuine concern that emotional reactions could lead to disciplinary sanctions, further complicating an already tense situation.

Alonso did not stay quiet

Xabi Alonso, however, could not entirely hide his feelings when addressing the media.

When asked about the penalty incident and VAR’s lack of involvement, the Real Madrid coach resorted to irony to underline his disbelief.

While analysing the play, Alonso said, “It looked like a clear penalty to me. Vini was very fast, there was contact… and I’m very surprised it didn’t even go to VAR.

“We’re not surprised. We have to move on.” The remark reflected both frustration and resignation, suggesting that the outcome felt familiar rather than shocking.

The coach then went a step further when questioned about Gonzalez Fuertes’ role in the incident, particularly given his involvement in controversial decisions surrounding the last Copa del Rey final.

When asked whether that detail was surprising, Alonso delivered a pointed response, saying, “You said it. And we’ll leave it at that.”

As such, the Real Madrid players shared the view that the decision was unjust, yet restraint prevailed.

No public statements were issued, no social media reactions followed, and silence was chosen as a form of self-protection.
