Kylian Mbappe was visibly furious after Real Madrid’s 2-2 draw against Elche, a result that added even more tension to a complicated week for the club.

The Frenchman’s frustration stemmed from two major factors – the costly drop in points and the referee’s controversial handling of the final moments of the match.

From a sporting perspective, the draw has dealt a blow to Real Madrid’s momentum in the La Liga title chase.

Although the team still sits at the top of the table, the cushion that once felt comfortable has suddenly shrunk.

In just two league games, their advantage has been cut by four points, putting pressure on every upcoming fixture.

The second reason behind his anger was the referee’s decision to end the game precisely at the eighth minute of added time, despite multiple delays caused by Elche.

Mbappe, convinced that more time should have been added, ran straight to the match official, Hernandez Maeso, to challenge the decision.

His protests were so intense that the referee immediately reached for his notebook.

Before issuing the booking, the referee detailed his justification in the official match report. As reported by Defensa Central, he wrote,

“In the 90th minute, the player Kylian Mbappe Lottin was cautioned for the following reason: for protesting, in an obvious manner, a decision of mine after the end of the match, while we were still on the field of play.”

The caution adds to an emerging disciplinary concern for Mbappe. The booking against Elche marks his third yellow card of the current campaign, following earlier cautions against Osasuna and Real Sociedad.

According to league regulations, the next yellow card will push him into suspension territory, meaning he is now one misstep away from missing a crucial match.
