Sunderland resume Premier League duty on Sunday when Fulham visit the Stadium of Light, two pm kick-off, with Régis Le Bris delivering team news at his pre-match briefing.
Le Bris said defender Reinildo will be out for around four weeks with a knee issue, having felt something during the Liverpool game, though a second diagnosis was more positive.
Granit Xhaka has more or less trained fully this week and will be available on Sunday. Bertrand Traoré will not feature, and the head coach hopes he can train next week and be available next weekend.
Trai Hume has been taking the long throws because Nordi Mukiele has a hand problem. Le Bris hopes Mukiele will soon be close to his previous level in that routine.
On Xhaka’s absence, Le Bris reflected that the midfielder had been important as a player and leader, and that the group has grown with several able to lead.
He noted there are 12 games left and 36 points to play for, that there are no easy fixtures, and that Sunderland must stay ambitious while learning.
Assessing Fulham, he described a well established Premier League side with patterns to play through pressure and clinical players, citing Harry Wilson, and said it will be a tough test.
