Sunderland resume their Premier League campaign at home to Fulham next weekend, still only four points off the top seven despite winning one of their last four.
According to Opta, the Black Cats are projected to finish 11th on 49.61 points, with Fulham 12th on 49.31. The same forecast has Arsenal first on 81.87 and Manchester City second with 74.60.
Regis Le Bris’ side lost 3-1 at struggling West Ham, then produced a 3-0 home win over Burnley, a Habib Diarra brace and a Chemsdine Talbi strike sealing it.
They then left Arsenal empty-handed and were beaten in midweek by Liverpool, a Virgil van Dijk goal securing the visitors all three points on Wearside.
Those results left Sunderland 11th as the league schedule paused for Sunday’s FA Cup fourth round tie at Championship strugglers Oxford United.
Fulham’s visit follows, and a win could bring Sunderland to within a point of the European places if other results go their way.
