Régis Le Bris says Habib Diarra and Chemsdine Talbi could be available for Sunderland’s match against West Ham United on Saturday lunchtime.

According to Sunderland Echo, both returned to Wearside this week after the Africa Cup of Nations and have rejoined training. Diarra only resumed on Thursday after celebrating Senegal’s tournament win, so his fitness is still being assessed ahead of the weekend.

Diarra featured regularly for Senegal, while Talbi made one substitute appearance for Morocco. Their availability would add depth for the weeks ahead.

Le Bris hopes both could be involved in the next fixture and will make a late call on the starting line-up.

Diarra has thanked Sunderland for supporting his recovery from a groin injury before the tournament. Le Bris welcomed the positive energy the midfielder can bring and spoke about maintaining a strong connection with players through long absences.

West Ham remain in the relegation zone, and after their win over Spurs Le Bris warned the challenge should not be underestimated. He highlighted their experienced squad, said they have won their last two games and felt they deserved more against Nottingham Forest. He noted the addition of two forwards and believes they can bounce back.
