Morocco reportedly close Regragui chapter

Regragui cycle ends as Morocco prepare new chapter
Reports in Moroccan and international media say Morocco have ended their partnership with Walid Regragui, with Mohamed Ouahbi expected to become the new head coach.
Multiple outlets report that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has officially parted ways with Walid Regragui.
The decision was reached by agreement between both sides after the team’s recent participation in Africa Cup of Nations.
French newspaper L'Équipe also confirmed the separation. However as of 4 March 2026, the Moroccan federation had not yet released formal public statement.
The timing is important as the change comes less than three months before FIFA World Cup scheduled for June & July 2026.
Reports say that Mohamed Wahbi, currently in charge of Morocco’s U20 team, is the leading candidate to take over the senior national team.
The expected technical staff could include:
The reports describe the decision as the end of a coaching era. Regragui led Morocco through important moments on the international stage and played a key role in raising the team’s profile.
Regragui preferred not to continue despite the upcoming World Cup and both sides agreed to close the chapter in a calm way.
Changing head coach only months before a World Cup is a major step. If confirmed officially, Ouahbi would have limited time to prepare the team for the global tournament.
For now the football world waits for official announcement from the Moroccan federation to confirm the details and clarify the next steps.
