Reimagined 1972 FA Cup Winners mural revealed | OneFootball

Leeds-born artist Nicolas Dixon recently completed a redesigned 1972 FA Cup Winners mural located on the East Stand security office.

A Leeds United supporter from birth, the abstract artist was recommissioned by the Leeds United Supporters' Trust to recreate his original mural upon relocation of the security office to the East Stand due to the redevelopment of the West Stand.

The players were rearranged in the new mural, including changes such as moving Don Revie to the right hand side and placing Les Cocker beside him as a nod to their close relationship in the sides' success. Nicolas incorporated elements from Paul Trevillion, including the famous sock tags lining the design as well as hidden references to the club the patterns.

Nicolas recently completed another project in Protech Roofing’s Box 12, bringing his creativity in bringing vibrancy to a special area containing a memorial wall for supporters who have sadly passed away.

“It doesn’t get any better than that for a Leeds fan," Nicolas told leedsunited.com. “You don’t get two bites at the same cherry and I’m fortunate that I’ve been able to do this not just the first time, but the second time.”

"To be able to do it on the side of the ground is just incredible, there’s a lot of spirit there. I've reached the pinnacle."

On his project in Box 12, the artist added: "It’s a special place because there’s a memorial wall with a lot of the Leeds fans that are not with us anymore. It was just a lovely way to end an amazing experience down here at Elland Road.”

Nicolas' artwork will also be featured on BBC's Match of the Day's credits, a further recognition of his creativity as captain Ethan Ampadu is shown running in front of his abstract style ahead of the programme.
