Manchester United are once again in turmoil – and this could have far-reaching consequences in the summer. After another disappointing season and the next coaching change, the focus is not only on the club’s future, but above all on its biggest stars. One of them is particularly in the spotlight: Bruno Fernandes. The Red Devils‘ captain is apparently thinking seriously about leaving – and FC Bayern is playing a not insignificant role in these considerations
As the British portal iNews reports, citing several sources close to the club, there is growing concern internally at Manchester United that Bruno Fernandes wants to leave the club. The Portuguese is regarded as an undisputed leader, highly esteemed on both a sporting and personal level, but his patience seems limited. Now 31 years old, Fernandes is still driven by great ambition and wants to win titles – a prospect that United can hardly offer him at the moment
It’s precisely this situation that has caught the attention of FC Bayern. According to iNews, the German record champions are still among the potential suitors. The Portuguese has been linked with the record champions for some time
According to iNews, Munich are not afraid to sign established players over the age of 30, provided the quality and mentality are right. The transfer of Harry Kane in the summer of 2023 for the equivalent of around 100 million euros sends a clear signal: experience at world-class level is expressly desired at Säbener Straße
Fernandes fits this profile: game intelligence, leadership, international experience and the ability to immediately give a team structure. The fact that the Portuguese has almost single-handedly carried Manchester United at times in recent years speaks for him, as does his consistency at the highest level

One detail from the midfielder’s contract is particularly interesting from Bayern’s point of view. According to iNews, it is said to contain a clause that would allow Fernandes to move to a club outside England for around €66 million – a sum that is far higher than his current market value, which is estimated at €40 million
From Munich’s point of view, Fernandes would not be a classic transfer prospect, but an immediate fixture. Such a player could bring additional stability and creativity to the midfield in particular – also in view of Leon Goretzka’s uncertain future. Fernandes‘ leadership qualities and international experience would fit perfectly into a squad that wants to be successful not only nationally, but above all in Europe in the coming years
Nevertheless, a move to Munich seems rather unlikely. According to German media reports, Bayern are looking for a young up-and-coming player who can be carefully built up behind the regular duo of Joshua Kimmich and Aleksander Pavlovic. Fernandes, on the other hand, would be an expensive star addition who has significantly different demands and expectations.
