According to Daily Mail reporter Oliver Holt, Harry Kane could reconsider his Tottenham Hotspur career come the end of the season.
The English skipper has been pivotal to what was a surprise title charge this season. Jose Mourinho’s side were once top and looked every bit the real deal. While they aren’t out of the running yet, Tottenham have lost ground to the teams around them.
Last weekend’s loss to Liverpool was yet another setback. More so, given that the Reds played the whole of the second half without a recognized centre-back. The fact that we could not trouble them at the back was worrisome.
Kane was taken off at half time after he injured both his ankles in the first half. Given that he and Son Heung-Min have plundered in 46 percent of our goals this season, his absence will be noticeable in the attack.
Holt believes the spell on the sidelines could see Kane question the club’s ability to attain his ambitions. The player had just last year claimed he could consider leaving Tottenham in search of silverware. While one cannot claim the club lacks ambition, whether they have the means to achieve it another matter altogether.
Given the drop off in form of the teams around us, this season should have seen us take the lead in search of silverware. Having been reinforced well in the summer, Spurs were not lacking for resources either. It is fair to say that of late, we have lacked conviction.
While Holt believes Kane could enhance his reputation by staying put, it remains to be seen if that will be the case. The journalist takes the example of Steven Gerrard who stayed loyal to Liverpool during their league drought.
With the Carabao Cup finals still to come, Spurs would very well end the season with a trophy. However, it remains to be seen if that will the limit to Kane’s ambitions. After all, he has seen his vice-captain at the national level lift the biggest honours in club football, over the last few years.
Kane could very well end his career as Tottenham’s highest ever goalscorer. However, will that be enough?
There is individually a lot to be gained if Kane stays put at Tottenham. Whether that will be enough is the question. At 27, he is in the prime of his career and has also improved his creative output under Mourinho.
The player will have no shortage of takers, given his standing as one of the best strikers in world football. There is still much to play for this season and hopefully, we will show enough to convince Kane that his future is at the Lane.
