"Remember the name" — Leverkusen’s message

The club’s official X account posted after the match:

"Ibo Maza. Remember the name"

German outlets echoed the sentiment lamenting the fact that such prodigious talent had opted to represent Algeria instead of Germany where he had previously featured for youth national teams.

Maza explains his choice: "It was football decision"

Speaking to Sky Sport Germany after the match, Maza reflected on his international switch with smile:

"Yes, I’ve played for Algeria — and that’s final"

The youngster added:

"It was decision based purely on football. In my position, Germany already have world-class players like Jamal Musiala & Florian Wirtz — competing with them is extremely tough. From sporting point of view, I saw clearer path to the World Cup with Algeria"
