Ahead of Brentford's Premier League fixture against Newcastle United, a remembrance event will be held at the location of the club’s remembrance plaque.

The event has been organised by Brentford and its official supporters’ group, Bees United.

The service taking place on the morning of the fixture will be attended by club and Brentford Community Sports Trust representatives, as well as members of Bees United and fan group, Brentford Independent Association of Supporters.

The event takes place at the location of the club’s remembrance plaque, which was unveiled last season to honour former Brentford players who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars.

It will feature speeches from Brentford’s general counsel, Nity Raj, and Bees United chair, Stuart Hatcher, as well as the laying of wreaths, a prayer, and a two-minute silence.

Brentford chair, Cliff Crown, said: “This remembrance service is a crucial time for reflection and immense gratitude for those who selflessly served in the First and Second World Wars. We honour their sacrifice as a club and community.

“Without them, we wouldn’t have the freedoms we enjoy today. Through remembrance at this time of year and beyond, we will always try to keep their memory alive.”

Don Tanswell of Bees United commented: “Those who served their country faced unimaginable challenges, leaving their families behind, to defend our freedoms and values, from which we all benefit today.

“Our plaque is a tribute to the courage of these men and reminds us of their legacy, bridging our club’s history from its earliest days to these different times at Gtech Community Stadium. The players whose names are on this plaque wore Brentford colours with pride.

“On Remembrance Day, we are reminded that we have lost players, friends and colleagues from Brentford and Newcastle, and many more diverse communities. And it is because of people like these men that we keep our community in mind in everything we do.”

The club will also honour those who lost their lives in conflict ahead of kick-off on the pitch at today’s fixture, when wreaths will be laid by servicemen from the 7th Battalion and the Rifles. Fans attending our fixture are invited to join us.
