Rémi Himbert, the 18-year-old Lyon forward, has signed his first professional contract after a rapid rise into Paulo Fonseca’s squad.
The club said in a statement that the deal runs for two and a half years, to 30 June 2028, signed in the presence of director general Michael Gerlinger and technical director Matthieu Louis-Jean. He joined OL in June 2023 from Lorraine as an aspirant.
There had been little doubt in recent weeks. He has made 10 senior appearances and earned a first start last Sunday against Paris FC in Ligue 1. He has scored three times across three competitions, versus PAOK Salonique in the Europa League, at Marseille in Ligue 1, and against Lens in the Coupe de France, and he has provided one assist.
A France youth international for more than two years, he played at the U17 Euros last summer, five matches and two assists, then the U17 World Cup in November in Qatar, four matches and two goals. He has since stepped up to Lionel Rouxel’s U18s.
Lyon’s policy of promoting homegrown talent continues, with recent professional deals for Khalis Merah, Mathys De Carvalho, Enzo Molebe and Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez. Adil Hamdani, 17, remains on aspirant terms and could be the next to step up.
