Remo Freuler To Olympiacos is a DONE DEAL! Player is traveling to Athens for his medical and to sign the requisite paperwork.

Freuler is not being acquired to solve the same problem as Santiago Hezze. He is being acquired because Olympiacos lacked enough control when matches became unstable. His value is positional intelligence, tempo management and the ability to organize what happens around aggressive pressing rather than simply adding another high-volume runner. That interpretation is reinforced by Olympiacos-side reporting that the club still intends to add another midfielder even after Freuler, meaning the Swiss veteran is one component of the rebuild rather than its final piece.

That creates a potentially much better-balanced midfield. Hezze can hunt the ball. Freuler can organize the space behind or around that pressure. Mouzakitis can provide progression. A further addition—whether Puerta, Cásseres or another profile—could then provide the athletic/technical bridge between those functions.

The age question remains legitimate. Freuler is 34, and Mendilibar’s football demands physical intensity. But the context matters: he started all six Swiss World Cup matches and played 40 club matches last season, so Olympiacos are not signing someone who spent the previous year outside competitive football.

The important test will be role management. Freuler should not be asked to become the highest-volume presser in the squad. His value is reading where the next danger or next passing lane will appear. If Olympiacos use him that way, he could make the more athletic players around him more effective.

WHO GOES AND WHO STAYS?

Olympiacos's midfield was already packed with faces. While new transfers are arriving, Mendilibar's preference for a 23-man roster(field players) is unchanged. Someone will have to leave to make way for Freuler. The fanbase would love it to be 36 year old Dani Garcia, whose best football has been behind him for years now. Unfortunately, Mendilibar's close relationship to the player means the departure will more than likely be Santiago Hezze or Lorenzo Scipioni. Santiago Hezze has been linked with moves for the past year with the most current links to Juventus, Marseille, and Villarreal. Only time will tell which player moves and which stays.
