Juventus have confirmed that Renato Veiga, on loan from Chelsea, has suffered an injury to the tendon of the plantar gracilis of his right leg.

The defender pulled up during the opening minutes of last night’s Champions League play-off defeat to PSV Eindhoven and had to be replaced by Andrea Cambiaso.

Tests were performed at the J Medical centre in Turin this afternoon and a statement from the club confirms the diagnosis.

It is a lesion to the tendon of the plantar gracilis of his right leg.

Although this notes that the recovery time will be evaluated in due course, Sky Sport Italia report that Veiga is expected to be out of action for at least two to three weeks.

The 21-year-old arrived on loan from Chelsea on January 27 at a cost of €4m plus performance-related bonuses.

There is no option to make the move a permanent one, but Juve had been considering negotiations to keep the Portugal international for next season.
