Arsenal boss Renee Slegers has given an update on various injured stars as the manager was forced to make yet another change due to injury in the Champions League.

The international break couldn’t come at much better time for Arsenal who have been struck down with various injuries.

Arsenal struggling with injuries

Renee Slegers’ team was hit with two new injuries on Thursday night in the Champions League.

The Gunners lost England’s latest international call-up, Katie Reid, before the game even started. Reid complained about a tight groin and decided to withdraw from the matchday squad.

It is the defence that is taking more hits than any other area of the pitch for Arsenal. Slegers did provide a positive update on Emily Fox, who was hooked late in the game with an apparent knock.

“Foxy seems alright,” the manager said post-game. “She has a knock on the shin. I think she should be alright.”

Fox was a Ballon d’Or nominee this year and would be a huge miss if she was sidelined.

Steph Catley also asked to come off late in the game with what looked to be a hamstring injury, but Arsenal’s manager didn’t provide an update on the 31-year-old.

Arsenal captain, Leah Williamson, has been out since the start of the season with a knee injury. The defender is expected to return shortly after the international break following an eight week recovery period.

Despite not having the core of their back line, Arsenal came out victorious in a comfortable 2-0 win against Benfica.

The Gunners goalkeeper department is another cause for concern. Both of Daphne van Domselaar’s backup’s are out with injuries and Slegers provided a more concerning update on Manu Zinsberger who she stated is ‘recovering from a knee injury’ sustained in training.

What next for Arsenal?

Fortunately for Slegers and Arsenal, the international break is upon us.

With her club entering the League Cup after the group stage due to their Champions League qualification, Slegers’ team gets an extra weekend off.

There is now a two week break from domestic football which should give the Gunners ample time to get their defensive stars back on the pitch.

Katie Reid will be hoping that her groin injury doesn’t prevent her from joining up with the Lionesses for the first time.

With England’s first game not until October 25th, Reid has plenty of time to recover ahead of her potential debut.
