The conversations are understood to have taken place during negotiations over Morgan Rogers, who is set for a British-record move to Stamford Bridge. Villa’s recruitment team appear to be working on parallel tracks, planning for a major outgoing while identifying the next wave of additions before another Champions League campaign.

According to the report, Villa “have held talks with Chelsea over the possibility of signing both Nicolas Jackson and Alejandro Garnacho this summer”, a line that immediately underlines the scale of their ambition. It also suggests the club are attempting to move decisively rather than waiting for the market to develop around them.

Nicolas Jackson emerges as serious Aston Villa target

Of the two attackers, Jackson looks especially noteworthy. TeamTalk states that “Jackson is viewed as a major target” and that Emery “remains a huge admirer of the striker.” That background matters. The pair worked together at Villarreal, so there is already familiarity with the player’s profile, personality and tactical suitability.

The expectation now is that Villa will move more clearly once Rogers’ transfer is completed. The report says “negotiations over Jackson are expected to accelerate once the Rogers transfer is officially completed”, which points to a club sequencing its business carefully. If funds are unlocked and squad places open up, Jackson may become one of the headline pursuits of Villa’s summer.

As an Aston Villa fan, this is the kind of report that instantly grabs attention because it suggests the club are thinking big again. If Rogers is going, nobody will enjoy that, but there is at least some reassurance in seeing Villa linked with players of the calibre of Nicolas Jackson and Alejandro Garnacho.

Jackson makes plenty of sense. Emery knows him, trusts him and would have a clear idea of how to use him. That sort of connection can be vital in a major transfer. If the manager is driving it, supporters will take encouragement from that. Garnacho is the more intriguing one emotionally, because he feels like the sort of talent who could light up Villa Park if Emery can give him structure and confidence. Estupinan also feels like smart planning if Digne goes, and the goalkeeper links show Villa are trying to stay ahead of events rather than get caught late in the window. The key now is execution.
