Chelsea are one of the clubs keeping a keen eye on Sporting Lisbon right back Ivan Fresneda according to reports.

The 21-year-old came through the ranks at Real Valladolid, and has really impressed since making the switch to Sporting in 2023.

Chelsea are well stocked in the full back areas with Marc Cucurella and Jorrel Hato at left back, and Reece James and Malo Gusto at right back.

However, Chelsea are always looking to sign the best young talents, whether for themselves or sister club Strasbourg.

Signing top young talents has formed the main part of Chelsea’s transfer policy under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership.

It now appears they’ve got their eye on another talent, with journalist Dean Jones reporting both the Blues and City are interested in Fresneda.

Fresneda, who has previously been linked with Chelsea has made 13 appearances in all competitions for Sporting this season, but the chances of the Blues signing another right back in the future would seem slim.

James and Gusto are both tied down for multiple years, and in that pairing Chelsea have two of the best right backs in the league.

The Captain seems to have put his injury issues behind him and hasn’t suffered any injuries since returning in January, whilst Maresca has now confirmed he’s ready to play three games a week.

Chelsea looking to offer Malo Gusto a contract extension

With James going from strength to strength there are reports the Blues are looking to extend the contract of Gusto.

Gusto has proven to be a capable deputy for James, and impressed especially in his first season under Mauricio Pochettino.

The France international didn’t have the best campaign last season, but at the start of this season he’s shown glimpses of his best form.

Gusto was deployed in midfield against Liverpool where he put in a good performance, and with injuries to Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo he could find himself in there again in future games.
