With the transfer window now behind them, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has already shifted his attention to another crucial task, which is player renewals, reports SPORT.

Several important squad members have contracts expiring in June 2026, and the club wants to secure their futures well in advance.

At the top of the list are Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia. De Jong, one of Hansi Flick’s untouchables, has seen his renewal process delayed due to complications with his former agent Ali Dursun.

The plan is for De Jong to extend his stay until 2029, although negotiations remain complex because his deal still includes deferred payments from previous years, which must be carefully distributed into the new contract structure.

For Garcia, things are moving at a steadier pace. Deco has already held conversations with his agent and both parties are positive about the defender continuing at the club.

What about the rest?

Another player tied to 2026 is Marc Bernal, but his case is already settled. Last year, after his first-team debut, the club quietly agreed an extension until 2029, which was scheduled to take effect once he turned 18.

Now registered as a senior player wearing the number 22 shirt, Bernal is waiting for the right moment to make the extension official.

Two other squad members also have contracts running until 2026, namely, Andreas Christensen and Robert Lewandowski. At present, there are no renewal plans for Christensen.

As for Lewandowski, his future is more uncertain. The Polish striker will turn 38 at the end of the season, and his situation will be assessed later depending on form, market options, and personal intentions.

For Deco, the months ahead will be just as busy as the summer. While new signings stole the headlines, securing the futures of key players could prove just as important in shaping Barcelona’s long-term project.
