Abdul Fatawu Transfer Race Heats Up as Everton Eye Leicester City Winger

Credit to TeamTalk for the original report, which places Abdul Fatawu firmly among the most intriguing Premier League transfer targets of the summer.

Leicester City’s relegation to League One has inevitably sharpened interest in their brightest assets, and Fatawu sits high on that list. The Ghana international, still only 22, has delivered 16 goals and 23 assists since arriving from Sporting CP in 2024, numbers that underline both his end product and his ability to unsettle defenders.

TeamTalk report that Everton have revived their long-standing admiration for the winger, having considered him last summer before signing Tyler Dibling from Southampton. That detail matters. This does not read like a sudden glance at a relegated player. It feels more like a club returning to a file they already knew well.

Leicester Face Summer Reality

Fatawu reportedly has a £30million release clause, yet TeamTalk suggest Leicester are open to offers between £15million and £20million. That lower valuation reflects the brutal economics of relegation. Leicester may admire the player, value the player and want to keep the player, yet League One changes the conversation.

For Fatawu, the logic is obvious. He looks ready for top-flight football. His pace, directness and willingness to attack space make him the sort of wide forward Premier League clubs constantly chase. In a market where speed and output command inflated fees, £15million to £20million could look like excellent business.

One recruitment source could reasonably frame it this way: “Fatawu has the profile clubs want, explosive, young, productive and hungry.”

Wide Race Creates Everton Concern

Everton are described as serious contenders, especially with Dwight McNeil likely to leave. Fatawu would add thrust, unpredictability and a different attacking rhythm. For a side that has often lacked fluency in wide areas, his arrival would carry obvious appeal.

Yet Everton are not alone. Sunderland remain firmly interested after reportedly failing with a £27.5million bid last summer. Newly promoted Coventry City have also made contact with the player’s agents, while Fulham, Brentford, Aston Villa and Bournemouth have tracked him at different stages.

RB Leipzig’s presence on a long list of wide options adds another layer. European interest could complicate Everton’s plans, particularly if Fatawu wants a club with a clear development pathway and continental ambition.

Fatawu Looks Premier League Ready

What makes this story compelling is the blend of opportunity and urgency. Leicester may need to sell, Fatawu may want to move, and Everton may need exactly his type of attacker.

There is risk, of course. Fatawu’s next step must be carefully chosen. He needs minutes, trust and structure, not a move that reduces him to an impact substitute. Everton can offer Premier League exposure and a potentially important role, though they must move decisively if they believe he is their man.

For Leicester, losing Fatawu would sting. For Everton, signing him could inject genuine electricity into their forward line.

Our View – EPL Index

From an Everton fan’s perspective, this report should create excitement, with a little healthy anxiety attached. Fatawu feels like the kind of signing supporters want to see, young, quick, fearless and still with plenty of room to grow.

Everton have too often looked short of spark in the final third. A winger who can carry the ball, beat defenders and contribute goals and assists would immediately lift the mood around Goodison Park. If Dwight McNeil leaves, replacing him with someone as dynamic as Fatawu would feel proactive rather than reactive.

There is also value here. In today’s market, £15million to £20million for a 22-year-old with proven production looks smart, especially when Sunderland were apparently prepared to go higher last summer. That should tell Everton everything about the opportunity in front of them.

The concern is competition. If Fulham, Brentford, Villa, Bournemouth, Sunderland and Leipzig stay involved, Everton cannot afford hesitation. This is exactly the type of deal that can slip away while a club “monitors” rather than acts.

Excited Everton supporters will see Fatawu as a statement of intent. The club should treat him like one.
