Ex-Chelsea Midfielder Oscar Hospitalised With Heart Issue

Former Blue in Stable Condition

Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar has been hospitalised in Sao Paulo after suffering what doctors described as a “cardiological incident” during pre-season physical testing. The 34-year-old, who recently returned to his boyhood club Sao Paulo, was taken for immediate treatment after collapsing on an exercise bike and reportedly being unconscious for two minutes.

In a statement, the club confirmed: “Oscar presented an incident with cardiological changes, being promptly attended to by the club’s professionals and the medical team from Einstein Hospital Israelita, who were present at the site. The player was then taken to the hospital, where he is currently in stable condition and remains under observation for further tests to clarify the diagnosis.”

Future Uncertain Amid Health Scare

According to Globo, the midfielder is now weighing up retirement as he continues to undergo medical evaluation. Oscar’s return to Sao Paulo in December 2024 was seen as a homecoming, marking the end of an eight-year spell in China where he became one of football’s highest earners.

Now under the management of Hernan Crespo, Sao Paulo had hoped Oscar’s experience would anchor their midfield, but his health concerns have cast uncertainty over his future.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

Chelsea supporters will be stunned by this news. For many, Oscar remains one of the most technically gifted players to wear blue in the modern era, a midfielder who combined flair, intelligence and humility. News of his hospitalisation with a heart issue will have come as a deep shock to those who followed his journey from Stamford Bridge to China and now back to Brazil.

Fans still recall his dazzling performances in the Premier League and that stunning goal against Juventus in 2012, moments that defined his early promise. To hear that he was unconscious for two minutes will unsettle even the most distant followers. Health transcends sport, and supporters will only be hoping for positive updates.

What will surprise many is talk of possible retirement. Oscar, still only 34, had returned to Sao Paulo with the intention of giving back to the club where it all began. His time in China made him financially secure, but this comeback was about passion and roots. For it to potentially end so suddenly would feel cruel.

Chelsea fans have always admired his professionalism and soft-spoken nature. This latest development is a reminder that even world-class athletes are vulnerable to life’s unpredictable turns. Whatever decision he makes next, he will always hold a special place in Chelsea hearts.
