Inter Milan could reportedly hand veteran center-back Stefan de Vrij a short-term contract extension at the end of the season.
According to Il Giorno via FCInter1908, the Dutch defender could stay at San Siro for one more season despite recent reports suggesting otherwise.
Stefan de Vrij is one of the five Inter Milan stars with expiring contracts.
Indeed, Yann Sommer, Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan also belong to this group.
However, the Serie A giants have already decided to let their contracts run out.
Meanwhile, there’s still an outside chance for the Armenian midfielder to earn a new deal after a decent season under Cristian Chivu.
All signs were pointing toward the end of De Vrij’s career at San Siro until recently.
Indeed, the 34-year-old has played a marginal role in Chivu’s system this season, making just six starts in Serie A.
Overall, he has amassed 15 appearances across all competitions.
Furthermore, Qatari side Al-Sadd emerged as De Vrij’s potential destination last month, with Roberto Mancini keen to bring the Dutchman to the Middle East.
However, De Vrij could end up signing a short-term contract extension with Inter.
In the meantime, the Nerazzurri are already working on renewing the contracts of Hakan Calhanoglu and Federico Dimarco.
